Anyone searching the internet for information about Barnet Council in the past few weeks may have inadvertently stumbled upon a new blog which claims to be starting a little revolution from the grass roots'.

Entitled The Government Department for Barnet (GDfB), the blog deals in town hall gossip and dishing the dirt on the borough's elected members.

It has been put together by a previously unheard of couple, known only as Statler and Waldorf', who state they are old duffers talking about stuff in Barnet and thinking of the old days', and handily point out: "We are not Barnet Council."

The pair's early offerings include musings on the number of councillors who are related to each other, for example Melvin and Dean Cohen, and John and Helena Hart. They take particular joy in referring to council leader Mike Freer as King of Barnet Michael Whitney Freer'.

At least three councillors have blogs of their own, with Tories Robert Rams and Richard Weider, and Liberal Democrat Duncan Macdonald already sharing their views of life in the corridors of power with residents. But Statler and Waldorf's teasing and smartly-worded jibes are sure to rub some people up the wrong way far more than the elected members' efforts.

Between the Lines is keen to discover whether these bloggers really have their finger on the pulse, or, as their collective name suggests, are merely a couple of muppets.
