Bikers rev-up for safety show

Lovers of two-wheeled travel are gearing up for a bike bonanza this weekend.

The national Bikesafe event is being held at the Metropolitan Police Training School, Aerodrome Road, Hendon, on Saturday and Sunday, and will be aimed at highlighting motorcycle safety.

The initiative is run by UK police forces to promote better biking, and will provide a series of demonstrations, with members of the public able to test out their skills on a variety of road bikes.

Chief Inspector Dave McLaren, from the Met Police Traffic Unit ,said: "The national BikeSafe event enables police forces across the country to promote BikeSafe, a scheme aimed at reducing bike collisions and rider casualties.

"The event also allows members of the public to assess their skills and try out various bikes in a safe environment, with specialist police officers on hand for advice."

The Royal Signals White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team will be performing over the two days, along with a number of police displays by the Met dog, horse and helicopter support units.

Motorcycle dealers, training providers, government and road safety organisations, and rider support groups will also be around to offer advice.

Chief Inspector McLaren added: "This year's National BikeSafe Event promises to be interesting and exciting for both experienced and new bikers, with plenty of entertainment for their families too."
